I'm also of the opinion that skill expression was far more prevalent in this type of game.not because it necessarily took more skill, but because there were more opportunities to make mistakes. This argument doesn't make any sense.Back when tanks did less damage, but had way more survivability, you didn't see carries just run past them and start hitting the back line.because that tank almost always had a form of lock down or disruption. Team fights took significantly more time, and the game was far more back-and-forth. The less mistakes, the better the player.Additionally, this whole damage thing has only been around for the last 2-ish seasons (roughly season 6.some could argue late season 5.) And, in that time, the game has seen a drastic decline in active players (in the west. If you tried to ignore the tank, instead of killing them first, the carry would get jumped on by said tank, and then demolished by the tank's team (because they would be locked down by this tank.)I actually much preferred the game when it was in this state. Orrn seem too tanky and still does too much dmg free.
Recently, I've been finding out certain things that old DM's of mine said were in the rulebooks were actually house rules. Since I've taken to DMing again, this particular ruling came up, which led to a bit of confusion because I couldn't remember if I read this someplace, or if it was one of those old house rules.
The natural weapons/attacks of any creature with damage reduction are treated as having the same qualities as their specific damage reduction. For example, a lycanthrope with DR(x)/silver, their claws and bite attacks are treated as being silver. This is one of those things I'm looking at, having it not make sense in most cases. A devils natural attacks are treated as being good aligned for example.
The situation is a warforged with the Adamantine body feat will be up against a flesh golem. The warforged I fully believe his natural attack would cut through the DR of the flesh golem, being the warforged is made of adamantine, but it makes no sense that the flesh golem would cut through the DR of the warforged, as he's made out of flesh and bones. I don't mind house ruling things, but I like to have some sort of rule basis for things, mostly to keep my house rules consistent within themselves, and to make sure I don't make a ruling that completely contradicts an established rule.
Attitude Dnd 3.5 Dmg Free
No forge dmg indicators mod. So I'm new to DMing and recently started running a game in 3.5 with some friends. I have some questions about critical hits. According to the d20 SRD, Critical Hits: When you make an attack roll and get a natural 20 (the d20 shows 20), you hit regardless of your target’s Armor Class, and you have scored a threat. League tanks deal more dmg then bruisers free.

My friends and I are semi-new to D&D, and are playing the 3.5 edition.
Insofar, the way we have been doing damage on critical hits is by doubling the damage dice along with all modifiers (strength, magic weapons, ect.) with the exception of dice added by weapon special abilities.
However one of our players brought up the question of whether enhancement bonuses (like the +2 on a +2 longsword) counts as an ability over and above the usual damage, and should not be multiplied.
So, we have been playing:
Critical hit from a str 12 fighter with a +2 flaming longsword is
x2 (1d8 +1 strength +2 longsword enhancement, +2 weapon specialization) +1d6
Is this right? No one in our group can agree what it should be. Anyone able to clear this up?
