Hi everyone, after the patch my level 87 melee character has a harder time with non-physical damage. For an example I tried to beat Megaera in the Crematorium map with 30% spell block and 76 fire res. Got instantly killed although panically pressing all buttons for my flasks (no ruby). 5300 life melted down within a second. So let's talk about elemental damage reduction for melee. It would be possible to level up purity of ice/fire and switch for something else but I don't have enough intelligence to use purity of lightning. (I'm using Hatred, Herald of Fire and Tempest Shield.) What do you do to stay alive? Or what tactics do you use in such situations? Is it enough to use a purity aura and the flask for the element or will I then get killed in two seconds instead of one? In POE Megaera beats you, this is a 'hardcore ARPG' not meant to be playable. Well, you should have taken ruby flask and purity of fire aura, that way you would have died in 5 seconds. Spell block together with ruby and PoF was a reliable way not to die. I wonder where you got the idea that you should be able to kill every map boss with one build. Just like you can't kill Atziri with every build. Want to know how fun it is to take Chaos damage as non CI build? Not nice. But TBH, there are very few (if any) fights that are easier if you are melee. Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance. ' Frankly I skip her with my melee character. I can kill her, but it's not usually worth the risk or setup time. You could use Purity of Fire and a Ruby Flask. Maybe stack life and life regen? Use things that allow you to kill her quicker, such as Vaal Haste and Atziri's Promise? After the block nerf, there are only 2 or 3 options available (and viable) anymore: 1. Saffels (+max) 2. Purity of Fire/Light/Cold (+max, but you need Aura nodes then) 3. Phase Acro + Atziris Step (Cant go for armour) optional 4. Against Fire Damge Arctic Armour 5. Pots, they provide you a flat 40% reduction ------- to 1) This means, you are 1H and you loosing shield slot -> need grace(or grace+ir) to 2) This means, you cannot have Grace/Hatred without massiv investment into Aura nodes to 3) This means, if you are melee, you have nothing against reflect, because evasion is not viable against your accu/RT to 4) after dozen of nerf hammers to mana regen, this isn't doable without EB or a VERY serious investment into passives. ------- All in all: Skip all bosses that do high ele dmg. GGG reduced all our defenses now against spell damage (after block nerf), thus, we getting destroyed by it. Simple. Welcome to the greatest of arenas, Duelist. - Nov 07, 2016 Basalt. Probably the best base defense flask. Flat phys dmg reduction. If you are melee the more melee physical dmg is huge. Knockback is sometimes annoying. Armour is cool i guess. Consecrated ground. 40% increased dmg is nice. The two unique versions of these are interesting.
- Feb 29, 2020 On maps with 2 or more damage mods, you will want to flask and vaal molten shell if you are trying to grind to 100, just to be safe. 1) Phoenix/Shaper - Heavy ground damage, need to move your feet. 2) Acid Cavern Morgrants the Deafening - This guy has a storm call/spectral throw combo that does more damage for each minion.
