Conversion of exe file format to dmg file format beta

  1. We're trying to deploy an application in.pkg format in our environment to a few Macs. Unfortunately, the application installer is in a.pkg format and we are unable to deploy it in this state. Is it possible to extract to a.dmg in order to deploy? Or is there another file extension that would be better suited, besides.pkg?
  2. Is it possible to take an exe file (such as an installer for a program) and convert is to an ISO file then either burn it to a CD-R or convert it to.dmg or.app, so that the installer will work with mac, therefore making the program work on mac.

You have to download installer for macOS / OS X (if it even exist for your app), as you cannot just convert it from Windows installer.

Alternatively, you can use some virtual machine software and run Windows app on Mac or vice versa in a virtualized environment, for example Parallels Desktop.

EXE

An exe file extension is traditionally used for main executable files since the times of MS-DOS. It was adopted for executables in Windows as well. Executables are files that launch programs.

Files with exe file extension can also be found as special self-extracting compress archives. They are basically archives with a small executable program added so the end-user does not require any software to decompress it. Can be password protected.

DMG

A dmg file extension is used for default disk image format in Mac OS X (macOS) that replaced the older IMG format. It is used much like ISO images on Windows platform.

Files with dmg file extension can also be found as binary dumps created by Oracle programs. Should not be confused with the common Mac OS X (macOS) disk image that also shares the DMG extension.

It does not work like that I'm afraid! A windows app is for windows. A Mac app is for.....mac.
There are some apps written for both operating systems, but there is no CONVERSION software to make it work either way.

Perhaps give the forum some examples of what you require? And someone can pop in with a suggestion or two.

Take VLC for instance. It's an open source project. Go to the official site and download the source codes for Windows and Mac, and see how the code is different for each platform. In short, no, you cannot convert an exe to a dmg. But yes, you can let us know if there's a Windows app you'd like, and we can let you know where to download its Mac version (or alternative).

The world would've been so much easier if we had programs and apps working on multiple platforms with a single code!

I want iWork for windows, we can make beautiful presentations with it.

As it's made by apple, only a mac or hackintosh could run it.

However, there are alternatives!
I noticed that you were a student - You may be able to get a HUGE student discount on office through your school. I did so. That would include powerpoint. You can download a free trial here. The student versions often require you to uninstall the trial and then install it off their disks.
